Saturday afternoons are the perfect opportunity to make time for the scenic route. Last weekend, I hopped the A train to 175, climbed on a tiny, Jersey-bound bus, and met my friend Sara to escape the city for an afternoon. As we drove along winding, rolling Seven Lakes Parkway, it was hard to remember that we were only a short distance from skyscrapers and sidewalk scuttles. We made impromptu detours at Bellvale Farm and Sugar Loaf, where we gawked at cows and bought handmade ceramics from a women’s art collective.
From the LIRR to the Jitney, there are lots of ways to cool off and chill out away from the city. What are some of your favorites?
